What is Reproductive Integrative Psychiatry?
Reproductive integrative psychiatry is an essential subspecialty that centers on improving the mental well-being of women using traditional psychiatry treatments, lifestyle modification (exercise, nutrition, mind-body practices), and alternative medications (e.g. nutraceuticals or herbal). Reproductive psychiatry aims to address the various shifts in mental health that can arise because of hormonal changes. These changes can occur throughout a woman's life. For example, hormones can shift drastically during your period, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, and even in response to gynecological surgeries or treatments. What sets reproductive integrative psychiatry apart from conventional treatment is its commitment to providing a holistic approach. This holistic framework acknowledges and respects the diverse medicinal and therapeutic practices that have been well-validated to support the mental wellness of individuals and communities. Many of these ‘complementary or alternative’ medicines have been around a lot longer than traditional pharmaceutical options. At Bloom and Build, we will take the time to assess your needs to create an all-encompassing collaborative treatment plan. Integrating Natural Solutions with Reproductive Psychiatry
Our practice emphasizes an integrative approach, combining traditional psychiatric treatments with herbal supplements and nutraceuticals. Nutraceuticals are natural products derived from food sources that provide health benefits; they combine ‘nutrition’ and ‘pharmaceuticals.’ While they offer significant benefits, they are most effective in a complete treatment plan.
Nutraceuticals as Part of the Comprehensive Treatment Plan
Every woman’s mental health journey is unique, and so is her response to different nutraceuticals. During our visits, we will take a thorough health, lifestyle, and mental health history to ensure you have a personalized treatment plan to your needs. Our recommendations may include nutritional supplementation, therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, and referrals for other supportive therapies.
